Installing the BreachSpider PWA
BreachSpider is available as a Progressive Web App (PWA). A PWA runs like a native application on your phone, tablet, or desktop without requiring an app store download. It loads faster on constrained networks, supports push notifications, and always runs the latest version.
For plant floor operators, the PWA is the recommended way to access BreachSpider on mobile devices. OT environments often have intermittent WiFi, slow cellular connections, or restricted network access. The PWA is optimized for these conditions.
iOS Installation
iOS requires Safari for PWA installation. Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers on iOS do not support the "Add to Home Screen" feature for PWAs.
- Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
- Navigate to breachspider.com.
- Tap the Share button (the square with an upward arrow, bottom center of the screen).
- Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
- The name field pre-fills with "BreachSpider". Edit if desired.
- Tap Add in the top right corner.
- BreachSpider now appears as an icon on your home screen.
- Open it from the home screen -- it launches in full-screen mode without the Safari address bar.
After installation, log in using the magic link flow. The PWA will use the poll-and-complete handoff described in the Magic Link Authentication guide.
Android Installation
Android supports PWA installation through Chrome.
- Open Chrome on your Android device.
- Navigate to breachspider.com.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
- Tap Add to Home Screen or Install App (the wording varies by Chrome version).
- Tap Install in the confirmation dialog.
- BreachSpider appears as an icon on your home screen and in your app drawer.
- Open it -- it launches in standalone mode with its own window and task switcher entry.
On Android, Chrome may also show an install banner at the bottom of the page when you visit BreachSpider. Tapping this banner starts the same installation flow.
Desktop Chrome Installation
Desktop PWA installation works on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Chrome OS.
- Open Chrome on your desktop.
- Navigate to breachspider.com.
- Look for the install icon in the right side of the address bar (a monitor with a down arrow, or a plus icon depending on your Chrome version).
- Click the icon and then click Install.
- BreachSpider opens as a standalone desktop window separate from your browser.
- It appears in your system's application launcher (Start menu on Windows, Launchpad on macOS).
To uninstall the desktop PWA, open it, click the three-dot menu in the title bar, and select Uninstall BreachSpider.
Why Use the PWA
Faster load times on constrained networks. The PWA caches application assets locally. After the first load, subsequent opens fetch only new data, not the full application. This matters on plant floor WiFi where bandwidth may be limited.
Works on slow or intermittent connections. The service worker caches the dashboard, navigation, and recent data. If your connection drops briefly, you can still view your last-loaded findings and Strike List.
Push notifications for critical alerts. When enabled, the PWA delivers push notifications for KEV matches, critical CVE alerts, and other configured events. You do not need to have the app open to receive these notifications.
Full mobile cockpit. The PWA is optimized for touch interaction. Swipe gestures, tap-to-acknowledge, and mobile-friendly finding cards make triage efficient on a phone or tablet.
Always the latest version. Unlike native apps, the PWA updates automatically. Every time you open it, you get the latest release. No app store review delays, no manual update prompts.
No app store required. There is nothing to download from the App Store or Google Play. Share the URL with a colleague and they can install the PWA in under 30 seconds.
Push Notification Setup
After installing the PWA, you may be prompted to allow push notifications. Grant permission to receive real-time alerts.
If you dismissed the prompt, you can enable notifications manually:
- iOS: Settings > BreachSpider > Notifications > Allow Notifications.
- Android: Settings > Apps > BreachSpider > Notifications > Allow.
- Desktop: Click the lock icon in the address bar > Site Settings > Notifications > Allow.
Push notifications are delivered for the same events as your configured alert rules. To customize which events generate push notifications, navigate to Account > Notifications in the app.
