Affected devices do not properly validate and sanitize PLC/station name rendered on the "communication" parameters page of the web interface. This could allow an authenticated attacker who is authorized to download a TIA project into the product, to inject malicious scripts into the page. If a benign user with appropriate rights accesses the "communication" parameters page, the malicious code would be executed in the scope of their web session.

Implement strict input validation and output encoding on the web server to prevent XSS attacks. Consider deploying a web application firewall (WAF) to monitor and block suspicious traffic.
No reliable network detection signature exists for this vulnerability class — apply the compensating controls above and the vendor patch. SAGE only publishes a network rule when a concrete on-the-wire signature can be grounded in the advisory.
This CVE violates CIP-007-R2 because it allows unauthorized access to the control system through the web server, which could compromise the integrity and availability of critical assets.
This CVE maps to SR 7.6 because it involves a web server vulnerability that could be exploited to execute arbitrary code, compromising the security of the industrial control system.
Virtual patch generated by CITED Relevance SAGE. Validate in isolated environment before production deployment. Compensating control only - does not replace vendor patch.
